How do we choose SeaPaint colors?
The way we've chosen various shades over the years has changed, ultimately evolving into customer requests, but the way we chose them in the beginning was very calculated.
In the beginning, SeaPaint wasn't for sale, so all of the colors chosen at the time were chosen specifically with my sanity in mind and very little else. Each shade was carefully curated to mimic my happy place. Shades of blue. Shades of white. Shades of green and driftwood grace. One by one, I colored my living room one furniture piece at a time. A candlestick here, a picture frame there, all emulating my happy place.
You see, I was chasing that feeling. The feeling of calm you get at the beach. And even though the beach was only a 13 minute drive away, it wasn't always practical to make my way there, especially with three kids in tow. So I did the next best thing. I brought the beach home. From a color standpoint at least.
To my surprise, I truly felt better surrounded by the shades of the sea and its surroundings.
When SeaPaint finally became available for sale to the public a couple years later, I carried this process with me so that others could do the same.
Over time, the color selection has varied, pulling inspiration from the various places we went when we were hosting the SeaPaint Tour.
Every shade in the SeaPaint line is chosen with intention. Not just "does this look good on a dresser" but "how does this make you feel when you walk into the room." Since the beginning, that question has guided nearly every single color decision we've made.
Over time the line has grown to accept customer requests, something few brands offer, but something I wanted to make available. Because this isn't just my paint now. It's ours.
I'm not sure when exactly it happened, but as SeaPaints grew, something shifted. The people buying it started telling us what they needed. Up for the challenge, we started to accept those requests one by one, color matching their dreams into life. Warmer tones for southern homes. Even deeper blues for dramatic accent pieces. Brighter pops for seasonal projects. And then finally, the mooider shades that I'd grown to crave myself. One by one we added them all. But the downside is, it's way to many shades to carry year round.
So little by little we released them as seasonal shades, every Thursday a new shade would emerge, sometimes selling out within minutes. Since then, we've slowed down production, but we haven't stopped. We still offer those shades, once each season, to this day.
Now every release is a mix of conversation between what we know about color therapy and what our community is actually asking for. The colors you see each season, reflect both of these.
Our signature shades will always be those initial shades that inspired us to create SeaPaints in the first place.
